Have any of the Japanese HD-DVD releases included english subtitles?

Just give me an english subtitled "Ping Pong" on HD-DVD and I'll be happy. :)
The Lee Ritenour's Overtime may be the first musical concert on HD-DVD (not counting the forthcoming The Last Waltz, which is technically a movie).

It should be interesting to see the audio format in which it is offered.

A Netflix customer said this about the SD-DVD: "First of all the audio for this excellent concert is awesome. Extremely well recorded. The players are all outstanding in their own right but together make some great music..."
CD Japan has finally added a 13th title:

WiFi-Spy: Can you read Japanese? How long do you expect shipping will take?

HD DVD Edition Thursday, May 11, 2006

Reviewer: Kitok (See all this customer reviews)

Buyers beware! This edition DOES NOT contain English Subtitles as advertised!

I have the HD DVD edition of this film. The clarity of the image offered by the new HD DVD format is better than anything on DVD. You can simply see deeper into the image. I have watched about 7 films in this format and can say that Shinobi is not a reference quality transfer - but the image is always good and at times - breathtaking!

I highly doubt that any Japanese releases of their domestic productions (e.g. animes, etc.) have English subtitles. At least that is the norm for LDs and SD-DVDs that I have come across during the last couple of decades.
Many Japanese movies have subtitles. Not as many anime but there are a number that do. Since a lot of their movies hit the international circuit, they often include subtitles.

Josh Z, thank you for quoting me from yesasia!

I posted that message as a public service to potential buyers - glad to see people are heading my warning.

I have the Shinobi disc, and I am here to confirm that it Does Not have english subtitles.

This was a little disappointing since the initial pre-order info posted at both Amazon Japan and Cd Japan indicated the presence of english subtitles. The SD DVD has english subs so I didn't question the validity of the initial data.

As soon as someone figures out how to use the "alternate subtitle stream", there will no longer be any language barriers imposed by the source material. :D

Hopefully, HD DVD players can download an Advanced Subtitle resource on network, and playback correctly.
