Just picked up the DVD from Tower. Anybody open up the new DVD and find that the booklet is missing? There's a nice empty pocket where a booklet should be - but no booklet ...? Should there be a booklet?

I'd take it back, but I wonder if it isn't some kind of production screw-up, and the rest of the copies at Tower will be identical. Please post your impressions after you get your new bulb.

Bill Bennett on the radio this morning was saying that THE THING (James Arness) was one of the greatest horror movies ever made, and he felt the remake was terrible.

I respectfully disagree, at least in terms of the adjectives he used, i.e., "best" and "terrible."

You want a chapter list go to Barnes and Noble website, click on DVD type in name then click on chapters or menu. Either type it up, highlight it, put it on a insert sheet. On google images drag some screen captures on top of insert, Voila you have a chapter list at least until you find the real one if you ever do.

I have noticed that some of my recent DVD's are not coming with any inserts. Is this a new deliberate trend, or is it a production quality problem?

Its the new trend, Goodfellas re-release had no booklet either (among alot of other new releases also).

I agree 100%

I love The Thing, but simply can't put it on the projector. I am absolutely getting the new version and eagerly await some reviews of the PQ and so-called audio updates I read about on another site.

I just bought the thing a few months ago on DVD and it seemed ok, is this the same one or is it a new new release? What's been added?

I do have the older one but i like Kurt Russell of Stargate, so I might drive over and pick one up. We just got a Barnes and Noble at the mall, man they want an average of $26.75 for new disc copies a bit steep plus tax. I can't wait for the CC to open in February just 2.2 miles from my humble abode, I measured it with the cars odometer. :) :)

I watched the new disc last night and was very impressed with the new anamorphic transfer. There is some vertical edge enhancement during the high contrast outdoor scenes but other than that things look very good.

And no, there is no booklet included. The new version is also missing the isolated score that was a hidden feature on the original disc.

There's nothing in mine either. I can only guess they originally planned to have an insert and then decided not to.

What's the deal here - I have been having a heck of a time figuring out when this disk is due to be released. First I had 05 Oct, then 19 Oct, now Amazon says it's next week (26 Oct). Was that Tower records just early?

Thanks for the info guys - guess the powers that be decided not to add a booklet. I guess I could take the booklet from the initial release and place it in the empty pocket of the new release - if it'll make me feel better.

Yes it appears Tower has released the disc one week early.
