I have a PLV-70 with about 1100 hours on it. Just replaced the lamp, old one not dead yet saved it as a spare. Anyway, new lamp went in about a week ago and fired right up. Since that time the projector has failed to start 3 times. Each time tried multiple time to start and no go. Open cover, remove and replace lamp then projector starts first try. Old lamp never failed to start, not once in the year we used it.

Do I just have a defective lamp? The filters are clean and get cleaned every 3 weeks. This is not a heating problem as the fan never raises speed except when first started and then slows down. Once new lamp is started it runs fine the rest of the evening, 4 hours or so.

Any ideas? or do I need to try exchanging this with B&H Photo? (PP was out of stock)

I'm seeing more and more posts about this issue. I've experienced it twice (failed startup) since SE/Sanyo replaced my bulb in August. Re-seating the bulb allows a dozen or so successful startups before it fails again - that seems to be the pattern for me and others.

I used to have a similar problem with one of the lamps for my Proxima DP9250+. One day when I powered the projector on, I'd hear clicking like it was trying to fire up the lamp, but it wouldn't fire up. The I would reseat the lamp, it would fire up and be fine for one to several times of powering it on, before I had to reseat it again.

Finally I decided to call Proxima support, and the support rep made a rather odd suggestion that I strike the lamp housing (with moderate force) several times against a hard surface. He gave some explanation regarding electrons in the lamp needing to be unsettled. Anyways, I do know it didn't cure the problem for me (although it may have actually helped alleviate it a little; I don't quite recall). After a few weeks of trying this approach, I gave up and got a new lamp. The new lamp worked fine. I saved the problem one as an emergency spare, since it's minimally usable.

My 20HD experiences the same start up problem although mine always starts on the second attempt. First start failures seem to be about 1 in 5. I have tried re-seating the bulb and changing power circuits. Neither of these has resolved the problem, although it seems like it may be occurring less often now than before.

Does anyone know if, aside from the nuisance of having to press start twice, this reduces the life of the bulb?

I'm now at a point where my POS 20HD fails to fire every time it starts. This f'ing demon projector is sucking the life from me, and SE is no longer returning my calls.

Well I tried cleaning the contacts and the bulb worked fine for several days. and then misfired again yesterday. This is definatly bulb related as the old bulb never did this even once. Might this have something to do with the Sanyo bulb shortage/back order situation at this time? If anyone gets any straight answers out of Sanyo let us know.
