New LG 32" 1394 TV won't record to DVHS

I just got an LG 32LX1D that has TV Guide data and 1394 ports. I hooked up one of my DVHS machines to the TV. The TV will play back DVHS, but I don't see a way to record to DVHS. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you sure the TV supports this feature? It's possible the firewire (IEEE 1394) ports are for A/V input only, and are not meant to route data to an external device. I what content are you trying to record? Content from an external device, routed to the TV via an A/V interface, or content from the TV's internal NTSC/ATSC?/QAM? tuner? If your TV is supposed to support this feature and it's not working, i would contact LG customer support.

You can only record from ATSC or QAM tuner thru firewire.

If this is correct, that means you can ONLY record TV content via firewire that you are receiving from an OTA antenna hooked up directly to the TV, or via a cable connection while viewing clear QAM or encrypted digital content using a CableCard (providing this display is CableCard compatible-i don't know if it is or not).
I'm using OTA I've got a Mits TV that records via firewire perfectly. I don't see an option of recording on this TV. I can't find anything regarding recording in the manual either.

twitchee3, you might be right this TV might not support recording. Albeit, I don't understand why anyone would take the time to implement 1394 and not include record to an external device. I'm using one of my Mits DVHS machines now, maybe I'll try my JVC 30K and see if I can force the DVHS machine to look at the i-Link port and record.

If you have a remote with a timer feature, you can get the Mits DVHS deck to record anything from any FireWire source connected to it. As long as the VCR sees the connected device, and you select the corresponding device as the input using the FireWire button on the Mits remote, you can record from that source.

If the TV does NOT support recording to an external source via firewire, this will not work.

Really? I didn't realize that FireWire ports could be configured for one-way signals (input only). I was under the impression that FireWire was always input/output, regardless of device. I understand if what you're saying refers the TV not having support for recording to an external device, but if the IEEE 1394 ports are sending out a signal any compatible recording device with a IEEE 1394 port should be able to "see" that signal and record it.
