Looks like nVidia just came out with a new 6200 and 6600 AGP card for cheap. I wanted to make sure I get the right one to play back DVD's on TT2.1

Using the nVidia special option processing checked.

Currently have 2.4Ghz 800mz FSB Pent4 with AGP MB. 756megs PC2700 ram.

*** Ignore my comments below , I was not up to date enough with my information ;) ***

Stay away from the 6200 , it uses your PC memory [ uses something Nvidia calls 'turbo-cache' ] . I do not think the 6200 actually has 128mb on the card , from what I read that is how much memory the card can use from your system memory to make it function as if it was actually a 128mb card . So unless Nvidia has changed something with the 6200 I would avoid it ;) .

There are a couple of different versions of the 6200. The regular 6200 is like most other video cards. It has on board memory and that's it. They come with 128 MB or 256 MB.

What you are thinking of is the 6200TC. This is a different model of chip. As you said, TC stands for Turbo-Cache. These models only come with 32 or 64 MB of on-board memory. They use your main system memory to take up the slack. They are designed to be extemely low cost. Obviously that comes with extemely low performance.

So since the regular 6200 card does support PureVideo then it would be just fine for watching DVD's with Theater Tek 2?

Processing nVidia enabled feature.

What if I decide to use VRM9 also?

Checkout the nvidia website for more details.
--- Ah , nice to hear Nvidia did release a 'real' 6200 . Sorry for my mis-information above regarding the 6200 [ I had read that a long time ago - Ooops ;) ] .

AHHG!!

PureVideo is NOT a (singular) Feature. It is nothing more than a marketing name for a WHOLE BUNCH of things available on new nVidia chips and decoders.

Here is the Official list of what's supported where:
http://www.nvidia.com/page/purevideo_support.html

All 6 series chips support features that fall under the PureVideo monkier, but not all chips support all features possible. I believe the 6600s and 6800 PCIe are the only ones that support everything.

They don't even list an AGP 6200 on that chart... So who knows what level of support it's got?

The price point for this 6600 is exactly what I am looking for. Too bad there aren't any in stock right now!

So the 6200 does have Purevideo. Ok great!

NewEgg has 6600 and 6200 AGP cards in stock.

I just want the Theater Tek people to confirm that the 6200 card will be allright before I order one.

the 6200 is limited in hardware acceleration to 720p. not a big issue but some media like WMV HDs are 1080p

otherwise it has the same set of pure video features as the 6600 series

might be smarter to get the 6600 standard if worried that this could be an issue

I think this could be an issue with 1080i as well since computers display progressively

Usually that means running ffdshow. Someone can correct me, but I believe any of the PureVideo elements are DXVA only. Running with ffdshow will force you into software only mode.
