HOLLYWOOD, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 17, 2008

Paramount Home Entertainment (PHE) today announced its upcoming

slate of releases on HD DVD for the first quarter of 2008. A

compelling array of action-adventure, drama and family fare, PHE's

lineup of HD DVDs provides something for everyone, further expanding

the format's offerings for a broad consumer audience.

Released on January 8, PHE's first HD DVD title of the year is

David Fincher's director's cut of the mesmerizing drama Zodiac, which

has been cited on over 200 critics' lists as one of the top 10 films

of 2007. The HD DVD includes over three hours of in-depth bonus

materials including a multi-part exploration of the making of the

film, the facts of the real-life attacks and more. Following on

February 26, PHE will debut the director's cut of Robert Zemeckis'

visually stunning cinematic experience, Beowulf, which conjures a

world the likes of which has never been seen before with

state-of-the-art technology and exhilarating storytelling. The HD DVD

will include a feature-length picture-in-picture track, web enabled

Beowulf Profiler, A Hero's Journey: The Making of Beowulf with

optional pop-up trivia and much more.

Director and screenwriter Sean Penn's widely praised adaptation of

the inspirational true story Into The Wild arrives March 4 with

behind-the-scenes material that takes viewers deeper inside the

enthralling, real-life story, characters and experience, along with

the compelling drama Things We Lost In The Fire, which features

phenomenal performances by Halle Berry and Benicio Del Toro, as well

as a discussion of the film and deleted scenes.

DreamWorks Animation's funniest new animated hit Bee Movie buzzes

onto HD DVD on March 11 loaded with exclusive content, including

web-enabled downloadable features such as The World of Bees and a

Build-A Bee Avatar, a picture-in-picture storyboard reel, customizable

menus, Barry's trivia track and much more.

"The Jack Ryan Collection" will arrive on HD DVD featuring four

explosive thrillers including The Hunt for Red October starring Sean

Connery and Alec Baldwin, Clear and Present Danger and Patriot Games

starring Harrison Ford as well as The Sum of All Fears with Ben

Affleck and Morgan Freeman. In addition, the highly-anticipated film

The Kite Runner, based on the international best-selling novel, also

will debut on HD DVD in the first quarter.

THanks for 8 movies in a quarter. You're really burning it up Paramount.

That being said, I will buy Beowulf for sure and more than likely Bee Movie for the kids. Already saw Zodiac on DVD and it took me a couple days to get through it. The Wild looks great, but I'll rent first. Kite Runner >>> Rental.

Their idea of throwing us some catalog titles = Jack Ryan collection. OOO WEEE, somebody stop them.

Did this really need a press release?

Yeah, probably just as a I-told-you-we're-not-switching-to-Blu press release.

Yeah, what a focking waste. A lot of people like Zodiac but it put me to sleep. WAY too long and NO story-arc either. Like a 3 hour documentary. The rest have some potential..... but as always, where the FOCK are:
  1. Gladiator
  2. Braveheart
  3. The Godfather
  4. Titanic
  5. Back to the Future
  6. Jurrasic Park

There are even more than that, but those above would be HUGE for HD DVD and its user base. Everyone can find a few in there that they want!

So the "Jack Ryan Collection Without Typos" is only given a general sometime in the first quarter release date? We have 10 weeks left in the quarter. I recently saw that BestBuy listed the release date as sometime in the year 2025. Please don't drag it out that long, Paramount.
So I guess Paramount's just waiting this year out and then switching to Blu-ray? Sure seems that way.
this going to be a great first quarter,i going to the br software to piss them off with my paramount movies. i was waiting so much for this, thank paramount

Not at all, They have always been slower at releases then everyone but maybe Disney (or fox pre-Paramount switch). While I would like More they barely released more then 30 movies last year, even if they got to half of Universals amounts of releases that would a major improvement.

Yup, until I see some of the "big guns" come out this is the approach I will be taking. They are going to do the bare minimum to meet contractual obligations and then at 12.01 am January 1st, 2009 they are gonna open the blu-ray floodgates.

This is my gut feeling as well. There are just SO many huge titles that they can throw at us. It just seems their biggest titles are on the back burner since they signed that contract. I'm purple with a strong tint of red. If going blu will get these titles released faster, then please just do it! Either help one side or the other (or both like you did before) but just don't sit there doing nothing!

Not really.
Well, I will be picking up The Jack Ryan Collection, Bee Movie, and Beowulf, but I was hoping for a bit more.
Does HD get There Will Be Blood since it was Paramount? It was my favorite film in 2007, and I'm hoping it's coming to HD.
What happened to ST TOS Season 2? It's supposed to be 3-25, isn't it?
What a horrible list. I guess they're just waiting it out until they can release on Blu-Ray.

I think it will be a summer release
So we had a release at the begining of January, and the next one is at the end of February? That's just wonderful, Paramount!

Again it appears that Toshiba is incable of getting its partners to fully support HD DVD. Such a release list is not going to bring in new HD DVD owners.

Without releasing these big guns, why even bother saying that you support HD DVD. RELEASE THIS LIST OF CATALOG FILMS ALREADY!
