New Pioneer 5080 owner. Question about Res and 360

Hello to everyone

I just got my 5080 a few days ago.

I've been playing my 360 on it ( Little bit at a time
) and am wondering if someone can help me understand what people are talking about...

I've been reading up on the 1080i vs 720p. They are talking about things upscaling and etc. I'm at a lost when I read this, and really doesn't help me

The main thing I'm wondering is what is the best to play my games on? 1080i, or 720p?

I know from reading other posts the people say that at 720 you get 60 FPS, and 1080i you get about 30 FPS. That makes sense, but is there really a noticable difference? and is this true?

Then they are saying that at 720 it is downscaling, or upscaling from something to something else lol, if that makes any sense, and the same with 1080i. I was hoping if someone can explain it to me in a easier way for me to understand it. I don't really understand when people get all technacal about TVs and computers.

Any help would be very appreciated.

P.S

I did do a search and found posts about the whole 1080 vs 720p and that is why I'm confused. Just looking for some help to help me understand what these people are really talking about lol

I would hook it up with HDMI and use 1080P - that's how I have my 360 connected.

2nd choice would be 720P.
Unless you are using 1080p content then I would set it at 720p and let the display do the scaling. Nearly all the game content is 720p.
Well thanks for the reply guys, but I'm sorry to say, Yas didn't really answer my question... or maybe you did lol.

K, The pioneer 5080 is not 1080p. It is 1080i and 720p.

I have a older Xbox, so my only options with it are VGA and component. I do have both cables, but decided that component is better than VGA after testing and reading from other posts.

With the 360 games the older ones are 720p 1080i, but newer ones like Call of Duty 4, Halo 3 and etc are 1080p.

So which should I have my TV set for? 1080i, or 720p?

I've seen lots of arguments about which is better 1080i, others say 720p. Then I see people say it depends on what your TV res is, and etc etc. A lot of factors seemed to be involved when choseing your HD setting and cables and etc

Again Like I said in the first of this post. What do you mean by " Let the display do the scaling"? What is doing the scaling? I'm just trying to get a better understanding about my TV, the Technology, and of coarse my 360 ( Had that for awhile lol)

Thank you for your replys. I hope yas can help me a little more in understanding the whole HD TV thing lol

COD4 and Halo 3 are actually 640p or something like that. t they are just upscaled to 1080p
So it best to set my TV to 720p?

What does upscaling do? I'll assume that there is a big difference between 1080p upscaled and true 1080p?
Just set your 360 to 720p over component. The Pio will then upscale it to the native res of the screen and give you a fantastic picture.

just curious, but I have the same setup and was wondering about the VGA cable. I have an older 360 with no HDMI. so while games can play at higher resolutions over component, if I want to watch standard def DVD's upconverted, will I need a VGA cable?

Also, does anyone notice a difference in upconversion using the 360? should I treat it like the games and set the rez at 720p and let the 5080 do its job? Is the VGA cable worth getting for this or will I be satisfied with 480p? I've heard some upconverting players don't do as good of a job as others.
