Are coming, according to RCA rep I bumped into

today, @ a local CE store.

The guy was tight-lipped as to what, but looks like

a) D-VHS with Firewire

b) some sort of firewire-enabled STB

about a month away.

Did I beleive the guy ? Nope !

But hey, don't hurt to have a dream http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

rashid,

I'm always skeptical "new product" mutterings too, but you have to admit that RCA has been bringing HD products to market much earlier and cheaper than others. Consider the DTC-100 and companion HD-ready TVs, first to market and hundreds of dollars less than others, and the F38310, a real HDTV at $3000. Not the ultimate in performance, and not without some quality issues, but very good value at a time when the competition doesn't even have comperable products on the shelves.

So it wouldn't surprise me if the new product mutterings were true. We can hope http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Frank, you got a point there.

I've been using DTC100 for a year and a half now,

and even with the recent bunch of STBs, delayed ad noseum, it still is the best STB out there, in terms of value/quality and features.

I sure hope RCA will suprise us again http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey Rashid! Long time no hear!

Yes, Thomson is revamping its CE offerings across the board. Most notably, the RCA and Proscan brands will vanish from the HDTV lineup and replaced by RCA-Scenium, a brand name with heavy penetration in Europe, West/South Asia, South America, and other areas.

I have had several pre-release Scenium books, flyers, ad slicks, etc for about two months now. Really cool stuff like an LCD "LCOS" HDTV RTPV with 720p and only 18" deep (Model L50000), 50" widescreen plasma @ 1365x768 (Model PHD50300), a monster 65" widescreen RPTV HDTV with integrated tuner (Model HD65W20), and two direct-view sets.

The Direct-view sets are both: 4x3, TruFlat ("tm") screen (800x1080i resolution), line doubler, visually styled similar to a Sony Wega. In 32" and 36" sizes. There's the familiar RGB, Comoponent, and s-video. Absent is any digital connecton.

I have some pictures and stuff too. I guess it's not a shameless plug if I'm the one breaking the news. Well, I guess the moderator can decide and deal appropriately.

Anyway, http://www.copperbox.com/lite/scenium.php is the url for some Scenium pix.

I'm glad to be back!

I forgot to say that I would want very much for RCA to debut an HDTV peice of anything with a firewire/dvi connector. The new crop of HDTVs from Thomson though don't have such a connector. Maybe the models in my prerelease documents are erroneous.

The Thomson plant near me, in Scranton, just closed shop. Lots of people let go, several hundred. Plant made 25" and 27" tubes for RCA and Zenith (saw it in TWICE). Thomson is tooling up a new tube place in Mexico to replace the Scranton plant.
