Both models are only 5.1CH AVRs so of course would not feature Dolby Atmos or it's accompanying simulator Dolby Surround.

Hey guys,
recently I've been upgrading my room for a (budget) Home Cinema 5.1 installation. Up until now I've used a cheap old receiver I got from ma father (Onkyo tx-ds575x), but its old age is taking its toll on the AVR. So i've decided to go look for a replacement (sub €350). The two receivers popping up most often are the Yamaha RX-v383 and RX-v483. These do seem very interesting, but one thing is unclear for me and i was wondering if one of you guys could help me out.
One website it's stated, and i quote:
I do have to say that i'm pretty much a noob at these subjects so if Dolby True HD etc are enough, please indulge me with this good news!
Furthermore, the goal is to run a hdmi from my laptop to the receiver, and than towards my Optoma TX1080 Projector, Connected are a 5.1 tannoy sfx set with the original Subwoofer (not sure if necessary to know).

The fact that it does not support atmos is no problem for me, but the lack of Dolby Surround seems to be of importance since ill use it mainly for watching movies and music."Does not have many built-in decoders. It does not support Dolby atmos, Dolby surround, etc. Again, you will have some troubles with it."

So if i understand you correctly, Dolby surround is a simulator of a 7.1 setup? and since i only use 5.1 setup, this does not matter at all?

I have a 5.1 setup and processor use dolby surround for 2ch content upmixing. Does it say which dolby upmixer it uses, pro logic? -or do they just mean there is no «dolby digital + dolby surround» ‘atmos’/more than 5.1 upmixing?

The Dolby Surround upmixer (ie. DSU) accompanies the Dolby Atmos decoder (on models that feature it) and simulates audio to any additional speakers in one's setup.So if i understand you correctly, Dolby surround is a simulator of a 7.1 setup? and since i only use 5.1 setup, this does not matter at all?

In your case, the Yamaha will instead use Dolby Pro Logic II to simulate 2CH audio to your 5 speaker setup.
