Hi,

I posted recently about $1000 HT options to purchase as a gift for my girlfriend. It seems clear that $1000 really only gets you an HTIB. So instead, I've decided to focus on spending the $1000 on an a/v receiver and a pair of l/r speakers.

Thoughts: a Denon 3802 (I can get one for around $700), leaving $300 for a pair of bookshelves...I would ultimately send the bookshelves to the surround channels when bigger/better fronts were purchased.

Anyone care to add their $.02? Particularly speaker recommendations or alternative receivers?

Thanks,

TM

$700.00 for receiver and $300 for L/R speakers is a mis-allocation of your budget, IMO. Swap it ($700.00 on speakers). Speakers make the most difference in sound in your system. Also, they are likely to be in your system longer, since receviers come and go (technology).

$700.00 leaves you tons of options in speakers if you search the forum.

$300.00 for receiver gets you an adequate performer from Yamaha, Denon, Marantz, etc.

Hope this helps!
