The latest Widescreen Review mag. has a report on the new California Audio Labs audio processor and seperate video processor. According to Widescreen Review this is the latest reference standard for home theater processing. One draw back, no Logic 7 stearing. Any comments or recommendations on the CAL processors? I wish I had a signature!

My point is that you'd have to spend the 12k+ for an 861 to get better sonics than a 6.5k Signature. And, from what I'm told, the sonics aren't that different.

Now if we're talking about the 30k Boulder Pre/Pro.. that's a different story!

Still, don't we all want the best bang for our buck?

My thoughts,

Rob

I specifically like the seperate audio and video units. CAL is utilizing Motorola's latest Coldfire and RISC processors along with the top of the line DACs.

I'd still bet the farm on the EAD TM Signature.

Im sure we all think ours is the one to beat, I know I think the Meridian 861 is. However, that was one positive review! and the two CAL CD players Ive heard were very nice. to me, the amp seems like the best part of the system.

What DACs does it use - I couldn't find any specs on that page?

Rob

PS: The Signature has outboard video processing as well - cleans up the audio.

You need to get the latest Widescreen Review magazine. It has about eight review pages devoted to the Audio Processor, Video Switcher, and 500W Amplifier. I can't remember the DAC part numbers. I'll post you later on the information when I get home.

The CAL audio processor utilizes Burr-Brown DF1704 eight-times oversampling 96kHz/24-bit digital interpolation filters and PCM 1704 24-bit dual-colinear D-to-A converters for all six channels. This unit also has an DSP bypass option to allow analog signals to be passed through with no conversion to digital processing. They also use a Crystal CS8314 that accepts 44kHz, 48kHz, 88.2kHz, and 96kHz inputs. This allows 96kHz performance without downsampling to 48kHz.
