I know this is probly a bit of an outdated discussion, since the new model of this TV is coming out soon. But I got a really good deal on my LN52B750. In case some people need a memory refresh, its the 2009 model 52" 240hz TV from samsung. I had a number of questions about the TV, so I will probly just number them. I did search, and I did read the threads. But some of the things I wanted to know, they did not quite go into enough detail about. Please forgive my noob ignorance, for we were all noobs at one time.

1. Which disc should I use to calibrate this TV? What would be the best one to go with?

2. Is there anything I should know about it? Perhaps there is some information that would be very valuable to an owner of one of these?

3. Will I notice any difference with the automotion plus off? I would like to leave it off for gaming, but I would like to not have to turn it back on all the time for watching TV.

4. Will a non-samsung brand USB wireless ethernet adapter work? I have one already, and I would like to avoid having to purchase another, just to be able to use the one widget that I want to use. The weather. Plus I wanted to play around with the internet at tv feature a little bit. So can I use a NetGear USB adapter to get internet on my TV?

5. I have read much about the "Soap Opera" effect. But some members seem to think that it has something to do with the lighting, that a certain setting produces. I may just be a flaming noob, but I just don't see that being the case. To me... yeah it always looks like you are watching a soap opera. The movement of the characters on TV is the same. I was watching Max Payne (the movie not the game) and all I could think was "This looks just like granny's soap opera now" What gives? Does it have something to do with the high 240Hz refresh rate? Is this normal? I am just seeing things the way I was supposed to, all along? I have to say that I am not noticing any weird lighting effects from it, that my noob eyes can see. I do not feel like the lighting in the scene is weird. It's just that all the camera movements, and character movements, have that almost 3-D like soap opera feel. Can anyone help me out with this?

Well I read all of the little short threads, but the one large thread... I tried searching it for what I wanted to know.

It comes up with a lot of little links that you think are going to help you. Well maybe they would, if they worked. They all just take you right back to the very top of page one. So that's completely useless...

What, is asking a question about a product that was talked about in some giant mammoth of a thread, and forming my own new questions, somehow against the rules? I thought this was a discussion forum? How come no one wants to say anything?

Samsung for CCFL go for B750

Samsung for Edgelit LED go for 8000

Samsung for Local Dimming LED go for 8500

not sure about B750 but 8000 is capable of doing full motion resolution at 1080 same goes for 8500 with Samsung Motion System turned on full.

If you are calibrating, use AVSHD 709 1.3b or later and use 75% instead of 100%. From my experiences with 100%, the result is not good and abnormal. Use 75% and everything turned out perfact. And also use the APL patterns for both greyscale and color.

And you don't really need to worry about Samsung's motion handling, they are pretty good if not one of the best in the market.

and for max white. If you are not in a absolutely dark room I wouldn't really recommend 30ftl since it appears to be little dark. 40ftl works pretty much under any condition.

And I wouldn't recommend CIE76, go for at least CIE94. I myself use the CIE2000.

Probably because people are tired of seeing the same tired questions asked all day long. Everything you have asked has been discussed many times. For example there are literally thousands of posts on Samsung Automotion plus and the soap opera effect. This is why most are ignoring your post. Hope you find what you need.

I'm guessing the members are reluctant to offer you a lot of assistance mainly because this TV has been discussed ad infinitum to the point of ad nauseum for a year now. You yourself even mentioned the number of threads related to this model.

Before I bought my two Samsungs (one in 2008 and one in 2009 and still have them), I researched the heck out of both of them for about two months prior to my purchase and never asked one single question to the members of this Forum.

You mentioned forming your own new questions; false, every question you asked has been asked at one point or another and/or in one form or another during the past year, especially the calibration questions, the AMP question, and the "Soap Opera Effect" question.

As for the question about the non-Samsung USB wireless ethernet adapter, I have no idea, but if it were me, I'd first try the one you have to see if it works. What did the owner's manual say?

And, for the 10,000,000th time on this Forum, AMP can be turned on or off, but the 240hz can't. It's the AMP, not the 240hz, that causes the "Soap Opera Effect" so turn off AMP or play with the settings to get the "effect" or "non-effect" you want.

By the way, I did read every page of the LARGE A650 and later B650 threads before I bought my two TVs. It's amazing the wealth of information you can find on your own. There's also this little thing on the internet called Google that also answers a whole bunch of questions.

The bottom line is that the Samsung LN52B750 is probably one of the best, if not THE best, CCFL LCD TVs to ever hit the market. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I too researched this TV for... probly two months before I came across one for the right price. But unfortunately, it is beyond my capacity to experience first hand, the first hand experiences of others. Therefore, I had no real way to know exactly what the "soap opera" effect was, or if I would even see or experience it. It was only after seeing it that I had any idea what people were talking about. Again thanks for the reply, but I have to disagree that I was in error in creating a thread where I was able to put things in my own words. I usually can't get very much help in those ultra-mega threads, and I find threadjacking to be quite rude. Just my opinion, of course.

As for the wireless internet adapter, there was no mention, in any thread, about using a different one, that I could find. I looked, and looked, and then I looked again. Maybe I missed it, but I very seriously doubt it. So by the standards around here, that question alone is a perfectly good basis for this thread. The user manual of course, makes no mention of it. Why should samsung promote buying non-samsung brands?

Of course it only mentions their brand of USB adapter. To say anything about another brand would be only hurt their own sales. Unless it was to say that no way, no how, will it ever possibly work, under any circumstances. Which it does not. Sorry if I seem a little frustrated, that really is not my intention. I just feel like some people should be a little more receptive to new people. (and what comes with them) As I said I am a big fat giant AV noob, so I admit that I feel kind of stupid when I say that I feel like much of the info in the ultra mega thread is over my head. That's why I really just prefer to put it in my own words.
