It looks like Seleco will release a new 16:9 native dlp projector later this year.A prototype will be shown at the Top Audio (italian fair) in September.

It amazes me that this sort of thing gets blown up on the net. After 12-14 mths from anouncement they shipped the SVGA then 6 mths after that the XGA.

Do you really think a 1.78.1 SXGA will be avaliable before at least this time next year ?


Its been hard enough to get the XGA version. These things take time and I would imagine that, come CES time next year we will be seeing 1.78.1 models ready to ship, but I doubt they will be shipping this year.

Lots of rumours but no official dates, and even with official dates we know how things stretch to way beyond the initial shipping date.

I do not believe TI is that interested in the HT world as it is small fries compared to the Powerpoint Presentation market.

1.78.1 is just not of interest to the Powerpoint Presentation market, so I think this waiting will be like watching the grass grow.


To me the anamorphic lens looks like the best option for both 1.33.1 and widescreen viewing .

That way you get the best of both worlds especially if like most of us you use 1.33.1 (disc/tv). you will not be wasting away resolution and brightness on the 1.78.1 panel when showing 1.33.1.


Best of all with an anamorphic lens you not only use the full panel resolution and brightness, but you can keep the same anamorphic lens for your new projector and add even more brightness and resolution to that as well, without loosing the money you invested in it.


Even if you get a 1.78.1 projector you can use the full brightness and resolution of the 1.78.1 panel to show your 2.35.1 movies.

(I actually have more 2.35.1 movies than any other ratio, followed by 1.85.1 ratio which is about 1/3 of the 2.35.1 discs).


This is the great thing about the Panamorph being a little bit adjustable in aspect ratio (1.66-1.85), I can adjust the tilt so my 1.85.1 movies have no black bars.

Needless to say I think the 1.78.1 projectors are not as important as they where before the anamorphic lens became a viable option.


Do I want to see 1.78.1 Dlps ?

You bet !

Do I think they will be shipping this year ?

No !
