My dad has expressed an interest in retiring our 10 year old 50 inch rear-projection and looking into building a new home theater setup.


We have decided on the Samsung HLT6187S 61" Slim LED Engine 1080p DLP HDTV, Fluance SX-HTB+ speakers, a Polk Audio Monitor Series PSW12 Powered Subwoofer, and a Playstation 3.


However, I have become jaded with receivers due to the complaints I have read on this site. I was into the Onkyo 804 but heard it had humming. I was into the Onkyo 674 but heard it doesn't display the PS3 right.


If you were in my shoes, what receiver would you buy in the sub-1000 range?


I appreciate any advice.

Alright, since no one is biting, basically my question boils down to, is there something better out there than the Onkyo TX-SR804 in the

I don't know about the buzzing, but if you can wait a month or so, the Onkyo 805 is coming out (which I guess is a newer version of 804, but which has some significant tech upgrades I think). It lists for a grand plus ninety-nine, but I bet you could get it for just under a grand somewhere. No reviews on it, yet, though.
