Is there a way to set up recording to only show New shows and not repeats? I only found the option of all shows or not.

that's in the new software for sure (according to that leaked document). i'm pretty sure that it'll rely on the channel guide info only, though (isn't that how tivo does it?). all it should do is avoid recording a show that has "(Repeat)" on its episode description.

I thought it was smarter than that. Wasn't there some show ID that

was compared against previously recorded show IDs? Otherwise why

would people complain about 28-day rule?

My understanding on Tivo's is they won't record something that has already

been recorded in the last 28 days. This works well most of the time, but

sometimes shows get preempted and the guide data doesn't get updated

in time, so the PVR thinks it has recorded an episode of X when it really

recorded a news special. The real episode gets played next week but

doesn't get recorded because of 28 day rule. It's not really the fault of

the PVR, but is a reality that needs to be watched out for. For some reason

ABC seems to make more last minute changes than the other networks.
