New Speaker System

387 Views 4 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  SOM
I am looking to set up a media room and I already have Boston Acoustic Speakers for the Center and Rear Bookshelf speakers. I have (2) Front speakers that are cheap and about 13 years old so now is the time to upgrade. Any suggestions on GREAT front speakers to purchase for under $1,000? Should I stay with Boston Acoustics?

Thanks,

SOM:)

if you keep the BA center then yes stay with BA for the mains.

Otherwise you can get Ascend 340SEs L/C/R for $884 shipped and I'd say "GREAT" would be a fair description of them. Outstanding bang for the buck, largely due to them being Internet-direct so no additional brick and mortar markup.

You could also sell the Center Channel, and use the funds to help purchase 2-Paradigm Studio 20's & Center. You might be a few bucks over budget depending on how much you sell your Center Channel for.

Also shop Audiogon, E-Bay, Craigslist, for some used speakers. I purchased a 5.1 Polk LSi system for $1000 (2-LSi9, 2-LSi7, LSiC)

Stay with Boston... Right now there are several pairs of NIB Boston VR-M80s for $900-1000 on ebay (buy-it-now). There's also some NIB M90s but they will go for around $12-1400.

I use M60's ($6-700), I love the cherry finish. The M60s may require stands, depending on your setup (Sanus SF26 speaker stands from Crutchfield work perfectly).

Which center channel do you have?

Thanks for the response. I will probably stay with Boston Acoustics.
