Alright then here we go.

The last home theater system I bought was a little over 10 years ago. Yes I was dumb and bought a bose Lifestyle 45 system. (laugh away please ). At the time I was pleased with the sound and was fooled at the store. ( I think they hypnotized me when i was watching the in-store demo)
ok enough of my sad story...

I wanted to stay under $2500.00 but came close with these components

Reciever:

Onkyo TX-NR708 -$549.99

Front Speakers:

Bowers & Wilkins 685's -$624.00

Center:

Bowers and Wilkins HTM62 -$424.00

Surround:

Definitive ProMonitor 1000's -$250.00 pair

Subwoofer:

Definitive Supercube II -$575.00

---------------------------$2568.36 OTD

I would like to stay all B&W for my channels but even the 686's are pretty large to mount on the wall (I DONT WANT STANDS) so i went with the Promonitor 1000's for the back.

As for the sub this is where I know im gonna get alot of criticism. The choices I have are:

B&W ASW610 10" 200 watt sealed

Martin Logan - Dynamo 700 10" sealed

Definitive Supercube II 8" Sealed

The B&W seemed maxed out and weak, The Martin Logan sounded like crap (too me) and didn't have many options for the crossover/phase department. The Supercube II Sounded great and has the low/high pass and phase alignment adjustments, The sound level was around 60% and was hitting like a truck. (8" i know doesn't make much sence compared to the other 10"s)

This system will be 80-90% movie with the occasional music here and there.

If you guys don't mind telling me if im just blowing my money and start from scratch, I'd appreciate it!

And no I didn't Buy this yet but waiting to pull the trigger very soon.

Thanks

Bryan

I have the 685 for my fronts and the rest filled in with the Athena .5's system. For a sub I have a SVS PB-10. I have the last gen of the SVS and the bass SLAMS on movies. I would recommend it over in big box store sub. SVS is having a close out on the PB-10 it would be something I would look at.
how do you like the 685's? and what are you using for a center channel?
Personally i think the 685's are great little speakers and have good performance at the bottom end for their size. When i picked up my first pair i ran them on their own to see how they performed (sub's & other speakers switched off via amp) and was very impressed given the room size (30'x20'ish) indeed they filled the room with sound and wouldn't need more speakers if it wasn't for suround steering. The 610 is not a bad sub either as long as it is setup correctly and you're not asking too much of it, buying a pair works very well. As for the other equipment i'm sorry i cannot comment as i have no experience of these products.

billy, thanks for the response. the room im setting this up is 12x24 (12' is where the tv will be on, and my furniture will start at 12' off that wall). where is your sub located? I want to have a clean setup with having the sub in front. If the room doesn't allow me to have it there well then ill move it. I don't know if im asking too much for that 610, it just didn't seem to deliver as much the supercubeII. The 610 is cheaper and I would love to keep as many components in the same family. I'm not looking for earth shattering bass, just clean accurate and well balanced with the rest of the system. I know a bigger driver equals more range, but when I think about that little cube it makes me smile watching that little sucker in action.

I'm running two 610's though for sometime i was only using one in a much larger room and it performed very well with things like transformers and similar films. I wouldn't call it massive bass but as a sealed unit it is very controlled. I ended up getting a second as i wanted more balance but neither sub is being run hard i have the input signal on both set below 50% and the volume also below 50% and the amp auto setup still turns them down. Both subs are ran at the front and even when i had one this is how i had it setup. Personally i would get the sub that sounds best to your ears i know matching drivers, tweeters etc is important but with the sub i don't think it matters at all (unless you have two) . I'd be more concerned about matching your centre speaker with your mains ideally the same speakers where possible. I hope this helps
For around $200 more, check out the subs from Rythmic...

I didn't pull the trigger on the audio yet. I just bought my tv today. 65" mitsubishi 738 series. I almost got stupid and bought that new laser series. That new tv is no joke, anyways....

I went back to the store and had them setup two B&W 610's. So after that demo thats the way I'm going... (thanks to Billy) as soon as I complete it I'll definitely throw some pics up
Check out HSU subs! They just released a new 15" VTF model.

B&W's are pretty cool. I've demoed the 685's with the HTM61 and 62 and CM9's with the CMC2. Definitely liked the CM series a little better, okay, a lot better the 600 series. When my money grows up, I'll be getting those.
