New to DIY: Have 3X JBL 2242

779 Views 8 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  Wrager
Picked these up at a decent price and looking to make subs out of them. I realize they are for mid bass down to about 24 o 25 hz. Have looked through various threads but can't figure out the best enclosure for music and also movies, although I will be adding a couple of other subs that go lower for movies. Will then figure out amps.

All opinions appreciated.

Do you have the T/S Parameters for these JBL 2242's?? if you have those then you can use a program like WinISD to build an enclosure or model a decent one comparable to the driver..
I would model it after the JBL 4645C. That is the box that it was used in. I use 2 of the 2242's along side of a pair of W15GTi's and I think they are great. They have fantastic punch and with some eq do pretty good down to about 20hz.

Thank you for the replies. I missed these. I will probably try the 4645c enclosure.

You've got to love anything called a "maximum output transducer" :D Too bad they didn't build a "subwoofer" version of it like the 2245 based on the 2240.

Depending on where you are I might be able to help. I have a 4645c cabinet with no drivers that's sitting in my storage. I got the 4645 for a steal because I wanted to use the 15" drivers to replace ones in another 3-way cabinet. I couldn't stand the though of trashing the 4645 cabinet so they've been sitting in my storage basically doing nothing. I'll let you have it for a song and dance if you are able to get it.

Sorry - jumped the gun on my reply and I couldn't figure out how to edit. I actually have a 4648A cabinet which holds dual 15" subs. Not going to help in this case.
