Hello all,

I am new to this and would like to get the best projector I can for under $2,000. Someone recommended the Sony VPL-CX1 to me, would you agree? Any other ideas?

Thanks much,

Darin

Do a search on the NEC LT 150. That seems to be the forum's favorite "budget" projector. You'll final LOTS of threads about it.

Other chocies in the super-budget category might include

NEC LT85 - about $1775, (bulbs $500/1000 hrs)

Sanyo PLC-SW15 - about $1750 (bulbs $400/2000 hrs)

Panasonic PT-LC50u - about $1400 (bulbs $400/2000 hrs)

These are all SVGA projectors. As noted by others if you

jump up to about $2400, you can consider the LT150, which

is the XGA version of LT85 and very well reviewed here.

For reviews of the Sanyo and Panasonic with measured

values of contrast and lumens see:
http://www.presentations.com/techno/display/prindx.html

This is actually a rather nice site which reviews a number

of projectors with quantitative measurements.

Another review of the Panasonic is from PCWORLD. It

compares it favorably to the VPL-CS3 which is I believe

the somewhat brighter SVGA predecessor of the Sony

you mentioned. The review is at:
http://www.pcworld.com/news/article/0,aid,53026,00.asp

Another review of the Sanyo is at:

(This is an excellent site for those interested in

Sanyo products, i.e PLv-60HT and XP21N.)

Hope this helps, John
