I just purchased a PS3, I am interested in online gaming but have no idea how to get started except for signing up on playstation.com and getting my playstation ID.

Do they have beginner levels and what is the next step after I get my ID?

I have a wireless router in my home, is there any other hardware I will need?

Will any BT headset work for communication, I have an extra that was paired with my cell phone.

Sorry for al the questions, I could not find my answers in a search.

welcome to the world of online gaming.

yes, any bluetooth headset will work.

All you should need if you have high speed interent is a router

after you get your online ID, your set to play any game you choose online.

as far as rookie rooms, some games have them, It really depends on what you game you plan to play online with.

be warned, there is no shortage of foul mouthed kids.

I'd prepare by getting a thick skin.

RR (Rift Raft) is what we call the random other users when playing quick matches, and they tend to be quite arrogant, with a limited but colorful vocabulary.

Other then that, just plug the PS3 into a internet connection, sign up, and play a MP game. Some games have better communities then others, but ultimately, play the games you like to play.

I’d recommend going to the PSN store and downloading Battlefield 1943 to start. It’s $15, and a great MP experience (even if it has a few bugs)

There's a few relaxed, gaming enthusiast clans hanging around AVS that you might want to look into. Clans are generally competitive, but these ones are just so we don;t have to play with RR, and to get a better experience.

Welcome, and as noted, prepare for the addiction. Multiplayer gives you a fix like no other, because anything can (and does) happen.

Every PS3 game will have its own way of getting you into multiplayer matches, but typically it's no more complex than the press of a button or three. You also have to sync your headset with your console...did anyone mention that already?
