Just bought a sammy hln 43in dlp for $1500 (open box). The tv is great and I have not had any of the audio-video sync problem with the TV that I had been hearing about. Do you guy's think this was a good deal for the tv?

Will I get better video quality if I switch from svga cables to dvi for my pc on my dlp? Also what is the rs232 output for on the back on the tv?

And finally how long does the dlp bulb's last and much do they cost?

Thank in advance!

Also I wanted to ask a question about DvI, on my pc the dvi jack is some what different than the one on my dlp. It seems to have to extra pins on it.

So what is there two different type of dvi or somthing?

You got an "OK" deal. You could have gotten a better (and new) 50" DLP from Costco for under $2000. Costco also has the newer-generation 46" HD2+ Toshiba DLP at an excellent price.

The RS232 input is for Samsung use only, afaik. You would probably see some improvement by buying a DVI cable for $20-$30 . Make sure you get a DVI-D cable, not a DVI-I cable.

There is a forum for those interested in AVS "home theater computers". You might want to check that out. Your current computer will probably work if your graphics card can support 1280x720. Expect to have to do some learning to find the best software for you.

You can also get an up-scaling DVD player starting at around $200. It's a good idea to read the AVS DVD hardware forum to learn about those.

Your inputs from worst to best for the Samsung DLP sets are:

Composite

S-Video

Component 1 (480i and 480p)

Component 2 & 3 (480p, 1080i, and 720p)

DVI

I think he is talking about a HLN507 set that is "new" -- not an open box unit.

the local costco here in mountain view, ca has the old hln5065 for about $2800. i wonder why there's such a variation in price between costco stores?

I think bfdtv was referring to the Optoma RD50. It's back up on their website, and is a great deal, even after considering you'll have to spend $400 to have the DVI input upgraded if you're using a cable box that has HDCP enabled.
