I just came across this over at www.inlineinc.com, haven't heard anything about it. just thought I would post. So begin the scaler wars...

no SDI -- :(

Pasted from .pdf

Introducing the IN1408 Video / DVI Scaler, a revolutionary new product

that combines superb video scaling for video, RGB computer video and DVI digital video signals with 8-Input A/V switching capability. The IN1408 can accept virtually any popular analog video signal format and is the first video scaler offering DVI digital video inputs. Featuring three separate outputs, the IN1408 can provide analog RGBHV, analog progressive component video and DVI digital video output signals simultaneously.

Inputs 1 – 4 Accept Composite Video or S-Video

Inputs 5 – 8 are Universal Inputs: Composite, S-Video, Component

Video, Progressive Component Video, RGBHV,

RGBS, RGsB or Computer Pass-Through

Inputs 5 & 6 can also accept DVI digital video signals

from computers with DVI digital video ports

• Stereo Audio Switching for balanced / unbalanced audio

signals with Volume Control & Mute. Unique volume levels

are saved for each input and automatically recalled when the

input is selected.

• Digital Audio Switching on Inputs 5 – 8. The digital audio inputs

accept signals from computer sound cards with SPDIF

digital outputs and DVD players with coaxial digital audio outputs.

• Advanced Computer Video Upscaling —

The IN1408 accepts RGB Signals from 15-60 KHz and

upscales them to the desired resolution and refresh rate.

•

be set for RGBHV, RGBS, RGsB signal format and is ideal for

connecting to displays with RGB analog inputs. Output 2 (5 BNCs)

can be set for RGBHV / RGBS / RGsB or component video format,

letting you connect to HDTV displays and other devices that

accept progressive component video input signals.

• DVI Digital Video Output — provides a digital connection for

projectors, plasma panels and flat panel displays with DVI / DFP

Inputs. By making a direct digital connection between the video

scaler and the display device, you can bypass the digital to analog

circuitry in the scaler and the analog to digital conversion circuits in

the display device, resulting in a superior quality image.

• Sophisticated Motion Compensation Circuitry —

Detects the original source material and selects the optimal

formula to eliminate motion artifacts. The scaler automatically

switches to adaptive frame mode (inverse 3:2 pulldown) with

film-originated video sources.

There have been quite a few "What is" threads here...try searching for them.

Both are digital video connection. DVI is mostly for computer monitors while SDI is an older professional standard.

if memory serves, this has been mentioned here before... not really an HT product with regards to the scaler quality.

From Sound and Vision Magazine:

The Digital Visual Interface (DVI) is slowly expanding into more home-entertainment products, and Inline’s IN1408 video scaler is said to be the first with DVI connections. In addition to digital video through two DVI jacks, its eight inputs can accept virtually any analog video signal. Besides one DVI output, two analog video outputs provide RGB (in several flavors) or component signals, all scaled properly for your DLP projector or plasma TV at resolutions from 640 x 480 to 1,600 x 1,200 pixels. Interlaced signals from film-based sources receive automatic 2:3 pulldown during upconversion. Four of the inputs accept both analog stereo and coaxial digital audio; all three outputs include both. Price: $5,200. www.inlineinc.com, 800-882-7117

hmm.. I would think that it is aimed at the HT market actually..

or at least has it in mind.. especially with 3:2 pulldown detection

actually sounds like a pretty nice scaler.. love to see it's quality in scaling.. I love that it has 2 DVI inputs..

sounds like it accepts all resolutions to 1600x1200 and scales it to send through the DVI -- that is really nice.

still sad with no SDI.. need SDI for digital signal from DVD player...
