is it worth buying the WIRELESS N gaming adapter.

i currently use WGA54G gaming adapter to play XBOX LIVE

Your wireless WGA54G is more than adequate. Your internet service isnt anywhere near as fast as your router. Unless one can completely eliminate any additional latency (which it cant), there is no advantage for gaming.

for xbox live this is all true. However, if you use your 360 as a media extender, the higher bandwidth is often necessary for HD video streaming (or even high bitrate SD).

It is my understanding that the main real-world benefit of N routers is a bigger range from the stronger, more reliable signal because, as pointed out, even a G router is much faster than your outside connection, and because the claimed speeds (54Mbps, etc) are theoretical peaks.

If you have a problem getting a strong signal from a G router, then an N router would help. If you already get excellent strength from G, then it probably won't.

That said, if you don't have a wireless setup, get N (as long as its from a reputable vendor); the incremental cost is minimal and the extra speed/signal strength can't hurt, right?

yeah i've had my Belkin Pre-N wireless router for almost 3 years now and i've always enjoyed the signal strength and speed. I highly recommend it since you can get them for dirt cheap now a days if you can find one.
