Anyone know when Yamaha will introduce HDMI to it's lineup? I have an older DSP-A1 which is still a great reciever. I just need something with HDMI switching capability.

What? Sony, Samsung, Denon, Onkyo, and Integra have all shown HDMI switching receivers, and Anthem is due to upgrade their pre/pro by year end (both D1 and AVM30); so I don't believe there is any copy-protection issue here.

Since the HDMI is an emerging standard there are multiple versions..

1. Version 1.0

For digital video

2. Version 1.1

Added digital audio capability, except no SACD

3. Version 1.2

Adding digital audio capability for SACD.

For each Version the chips are now becoming available so the inclusion in AVRs is just now starting to rollout, more models to be shown @ WCES 2005. Within the next year HDMI will be a required feature..

Which Denon receiver features HDMI (or DVI) switching? Has it been released or is it a future model? Also, is it one of the new digital receivers? Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Anthony. I did do a search but could not find what I was looking for. I guess I did not search hard enough.

It looks like the 5805 is not a digital receiver. Perhaps the new 4805 we'll see early next year from Denon will be digital.

Thanks again.

What the hell is a "digital receiver"? Yet another marketing term to confuse the masses into thinking they need to upgrade?

But if the Denon 4805 is more expensive than the 3805 it would be out of my price range. I would like to see the equivalent of the Denon 2805 with HDMI switching - and digital would be interesting too.

You may be waiting awhile then, because it's doubtful that you will see something along the lines of a 2805 with HDMI switching. Probably for at least around a year or so from now, if then.

As for now, the cheapest "to be" receiver known so far that will have HDMI switching. Will be the new Outlaw 1070, that is rumored to be out sometime maybe around Dec 2004 for somewhere about $1000 or so.

My notes from CEDIA showed the 1070 had DVI not HDMI..

IMHO.. DVI is already obsolete in a sense as it cannot handle digital audio only video.. Also HDMI will be required for the new Dolby + and DTS + systems..

That very well could be.... It's not like there has been a lot of reliable information released about it so far. And I agree, that just adding DVI inputs or switching to a new product now. Now that HDMI is out and ready to take over is almost total waste, because it still keeps you "behind the times" as far as having the newer interface.

Oh wow. So Class D has come out of the basement and is finally evolved into full-range.

Searched around and just read the Stereophile review of the PS Audio HCA-2. If Class D/T is really up to sounding as good as or better than AB, I'm all for it. Would be very good for receivers as well. Imagine how much smaller the 5805 would be.

Also read the review about the Integra units with Class D amps. The thing about HK's receiver web site. Makes no reference anywhere to the unit using Class D or T amps. Would seem something they would point out more.

Maybe next year Yamaha will finally get on the boat and provide four component input switching and dual HDMI/DVI input switching, along with Class D/T amplification. But they'll probably call it the Z10 and price it way outside my budget for a receiver.

But maybe by then, HDMI will finally be carrying the digital audio path as well and we can chunk all these toslink and digi coax cables.

I can wait a year (hopefully not two though), my first purchase will be a TV with HDMI anyway. I just hope Denon has an HDMI offering in the sub $1000 range - as my previous 2 receivers have been Denon and I am pleased with that brand.
