You need to wait till the end of CES in Las Vegas around Jan.8th. More info from the manufacturers about the upcoming 2006 model year.
Then I am guessing it would be several months after that before they were out in stores for purchase.

Panasonic released their new PX50/PX50/PX500U series in late March, then discontinued them 7 months later and have gone into hibernation and stopped making plasmas for the next 5 months :D

Pioneer released their new 6th generation models a few months after Panasonic, then Toshiba and Hitachi after that, of course this is all after i'd already bought my Panny when the only other choice was the icky new Samsung. Sony usually releases their new TVs around autumn. Everybody is different.

Panasonic cut the price for their 8th generation 720p PDPs and "sold out" their entire inventory. In the process they forced the also rans... Pioneer, LG, Samsung, Sony, etc., to cut their price in order to remain somewhat competitive.

Next year Panasonic will release it's first generation 1080p PDPs (TH-37/42/50PX50 TH-65PX500) to the US market... I wonder what Pioneer will come up with... in response to that?
Does this mean that next year there will be 1080p 42 inch plasmas? And at what cost I am thinking at least 3k+ for the 42 inch.
Not likely Dewsky. Everything I have read is that the smallest 1080p rumored for 2006 is 50". Of course however, there could be a surprise waiting at CES.
I hope so I know I am gonna get screwed when I buymy panny 42 hd this week and then they will release a 1080p plasma 42 inch for 2k.

I'm not sure but if I4U News is reporting:

"There will also be smaller size models of the new full HD Plasma line from Panasonic: TH-50PX50, TH-42PX50 and TH-37PX50."

I won't be surpised.
Well I think they actually have the plasmas on their japan site because they are already for sale in japan so I anyone has a good tranlsator I would be interested in seeing what the website has to say.
But realisticly, wouldn't you need at least a 50", probably bigger, to notice any difference in a 1080p?
The TH-37PX50U, TH42PX50/500Us & TH-50PX50/500Us have native resolutions of: 1024 x 720, 1024 x 768 and 1366 x 768 respectively. If Panasonic has found a way to cram 1920 x 1080 pixels onto a 37" / 42" footprint, my assumption is acronyms like "SDE" & the "jaggies" will become obsolete.

I anticipate that 1080p PDPs will have most of the AVSF "technical, geeky, guru, propeller-head types" drooling...

But, I wonder how many additional de d/stuck pixels may be inherent with a 1080p PDP?
Heard a report that flat panels sales are hurting PC's sales. A year ago I got serious about getting a HDTV and things sure change fast. I remember thinking wait as long as you can. I'm happy that I could watch NFL games this season in HD. Well I still think where flat panels will be in 2 years from now? SED on the horizon and LCD and plasma's improvements will be something to see. I was hoping to get five years out of my LCD but I'll move it into the bedroom and get something new about 3 years it looks like. A few things I'll be watching for are, LCD with LED back lighting, SED will be the big one if it becomes proven available and affoardable. Intresting times for flat panels.

I'm in the market for a new Home Desktop PC. Right now I'm considering the HP d4100y, comments/suggestions? My plan is to buy just the computer and to defer the monitor, speaker, and printer add-ons. ;)
thats a SOLID computer optivity. although im more of an AMD fan. id love to get an Athlon 64 x2 core (dual core, like the Pentium D) id much rather save up for a plasma. thats a VERY good price you have there too. video card and hard drives alone are like 300 each. great deal. if you need one now, dont think twice. not to mention its got a dual layer +- burner which is a huge plus.

i work IT at panasonic. everyone is getting ready for CES. its all the talk here which is good to see. im glad i waited optivity. as soon as i can get my hands on one of the 37" 9th gen plasmas im going to buy. hope its 1080P as i sit fairly close to my TV. i know its going to be 3-4 months though. ill wait.

glad i didnt buy an LCD
HP is one of the few OEMs to offer both Intel & AMD platforms. ;)
Most manufactures release new models in spring and/or fall and they often show them in advance at various big trade shows like CES. The actual ship dates tend to fluctuate by model and when they think they're ready to ship. WIth the extensive firmware in most A/V stuff these days (including flat panel displays), it's a lot like releasing a software product--the manufactures have to decide when the number of bugs is likely down to a "tolerable" level and that can be hard to predict in advance.

As someone else suggested, we'll know a lot more in 2 weeks. I'm going to CES and will report here on anything especially noteworthy I come across as I'm sure many others will as well.
