Have been lurking around for about a week now, so far this seems like a great forum....now for my question,

The Panny TH-42PWD5UY is arriving on Friday, the receiver I have now, a Yamaha v596 has no component in/output.

My Pio elite DV-C36 DVD has component out so I will use it initially and connect the receiver to the S-video input.

Should I upgrade to a receiver that has component?

kweezr - The need for updating your reciever should be mandated by what you "need" to hook up to your Panny (good choice BTW...). I would think you'd be better off with any type of receiver that can do component switching, thus expanding your connection possibilities to your Panny, IMHO...

Hello kweezr,

If the Panny has enough video inputs to handle your current setup, then I would suggest waiting on upgrading your receiver until you need/want to.

Enjoy your plasma,

Just hook your DVD into the component of the plasma. Your cable/VCR/Sat can go into your receiver and then that becomes the switch. I happen to use composite (not s-video) as I think the PQ with the aforementioned is better than w/svideo (my .02).

Are you planning on HD OTA if so you will definetly want to think about getting an auto component switcher (Audio authority makes one (AA1154)that switches both component and digital audio, it senses which device is powered up if both are then it defaults to its hierarchy).

Component switching in receivers is relatively expensive (>$1,000 as compared to the AA1154
