Ok guys after reading for days into this forum I am going to start taking a stab at this Sonosub build. I have a big basement about 30x15 that opens up to another room also. My HT is a work in progress but right now I am running Klipsch RF82ii for the front mains and no surrounds or center yet. My receiver is a Yamaha RXV567.

Ok so with that out of the way. I think I want to do two sono's with 15 inch drivers. I am still at the component selecting stage here in my planning so am thinking SoundSplinter RLp15 for the Drivers and EP4000 for the amp with a fan mod? Is this a good starting point or do you guys have anything different to suggest?

Have you looked at the stereo integrity drivers?

Thanks guys, are you suggesting different drivers then? I will look at the SI 15.. maybe that would be better than the Soundsplinters? Just want to make sure I have the right components before I start the build. Also I am not very educated on the different of d2 vs d4 drivers? should I look for d2 over d4's or the other way around?

D2 and D4 refer to the model of the driver. It is only 1 part of the complete model #

D2 means - Dual 2 Ohm Coils, allowing you to run the speaker at 1 Ohm by Parallel connection or 4 Ohms by Series connection.

D4 means - Dual 4 Ohm Coils, allowing you to run the speaker at 2 Ohms by Parallel connection or 8 Ohms by Series connection

The Speaker you choose depends on what Amp you intend to run them with. Kind of a "What comes 1st, the Chicken or the Egg" problem.

It's the Total design. You could do it many different ways.

Thank you so much for explaining that. I have a much better idea now. I am thinking of going with 2 SI 15 HT's now because it is so much cheaper than 2 RPL-15's.. Thanks for the point to SI didnt realize I could get good 15's for that cheap!

The RLp used to be a very popular driver around here and other forums back in the day. I just checked it out and see the xmax has changed over the years from like 15 to 24mm?? That's what WinISD is telling me anyway. Off the top of my head the SI should be the more bang for your $$ though. I have used 5-6 Rlp drivers in the past in the sono configuration. I'm going to have to get the new parameters loaded and see how it looks just for kicks. Anyway looking forward to your build.

The difference between the SI 15s and the SI 18s right now is so negligible that you might want to consider going for the big boys while you can

Sonosubs require a driver with a stiff surround to prevent the cone from sagging since it is facing down. Are you copying another build?

Are you using software to design the tube and port? http://www.subwoofer-builder.com/sonosub.htm

Am going to be using SI 18s for my sono builds, should I be worried about "sagging"

Ok guys I want to make sure I get a good boom for these sonos so I am wondering if it would be worth the extra cash to just get the RLP-15's or even LMS-R 15's rather than the SI's? Just want to make sure I make the right selection before I pull the trigger.. am thinking the EP4000 for the amp also.

With the EP I would go the SI rout. No use going the LMS route unless you're going to power them accordingly..

Thank you very much for that link. I am thinking of maybe going that route if the sound will be exponentially better than the SI with EP4000 build. Will the difference be pretty big? The subs will be in a pretty large full basement so I just want to make sure I make a good system that will last.

Oh no you would be just fine going the SI route if you can still pick a couple up. No worries there at all.
