Hi everyone,

I'm just now getting ready to step into the century as far as TV's go. I have basic DirectTV and was considering buying a new DirectTV HD reciever. If I purchased a HD receiver, will I have to pay extra for a new "HD" plan with DirectTV or will I be able to watch the basic channels such as ABC and ESPN channels in HD under my current basic TV contract?

Thanks

and that doesnt include locals.... if you want locals your going to have to live in the right area to get them from directv or put up an antenna to get them off the airwaves.

If you're getting an HDTV, maybe you should consider DISH instead- lots more HD channels and the PQ is better. That's not a subjective claim- there are many posts here where people measure the signals and can show the figure that DirecTV is compressing and bit starving their signal more. That's why they're accused of broadcasting "HD-Lite."

For less than $100 I put up an OTA antenna with preamp on a 5' pole and tripod on my roof. That's the highest quality HD.
