Hi:

First post ... hope someone can help! [Moderator - please feel free to move this to another thread if appropriate]

Tomorrow I should be taking delivery of a 60XBR950 RPTV. Two hours after that, my cable company should be coming to install cable HD. However, I have a rather "unique" situation: the cable company is bringing TWO HD cable boxes for the same TV (specifically, TWO Motorola DCT6208s).

One box WILL be connected to the Sony via DVD-D. But I need advice pertaining to connection of the SECOND HD cable box.

For the second DCT6208, which connection would provide better PQ ... component or Firewire / i.Link?

FYI I have confirmed with my cable co. that DVI and Firewire ARE enabled for both boxes. However, I don't know if a cable box Firewire connection provides a clear digital signal to the TV, where component converts to analog and then back to digital.

And BTW, yes I DO need two cable boxes connected to the same TV! :)

Thanks, I'd appreciate any advice and opinions!

Well first, it's DVI, not DVD, two, try the firewire first, see if it works, if not, component it is.

Matt:

Thanks SO MUCH for the reply.

My primary concern was PQ ... and I've searched other posts which have, effectively, bemoaned the quality of component vs. DVI.

However, I wasn't able to successfully search for a comparison of component vs. Firewire from a set top box.

And BTW ... sorry for the the DVI typo!

I don't think firewire is heavily used, only a small number of TV's have it has an input choice. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try to see how it looks if you have the option.
