Hello everyone, found this site a few months ago, absolutely love it. I've got a pretty basic (at least I think it is) wiring question but I haven't really found the answer I'm looking for yet.
The house we bought had a finished basement, which we are going to use as a family room. Already had a basic HTIB setup in another room, and recently purchased a 50" SXRD (f'n sweet). I want to move the surround system into the basement and, mostly for aesthetics but also because I have a little one who is fascinated by wire, I want to run all my speaker wiring through the basement walls. I have a drop ceiling in the basement, so my thought was to terminate my wires at a wall plate, bring the wire up to the ceiling inside the wall, and then run wire to my speakers that will be hanging on the wall. What my question is is what can I do about electric wiring in the area and avoiding interference with my audio? I know that running speaker wire near electrical wiring is a big no-no and if it must be done, cross at 90s. In that case, where do I put my wall plate? THe logical spot seems to be near the floor where my receiver is, at the same height as the electrical outlets so that everything blends in. But by doing that I am running right next to electrical wiring, will I create interference for myself by doing it this way? Are there any other measures I can take to protect the speaker wire from electrical interference, i.e. wrap it with some type of insulation? I've attached a couple sketches to better explain what I mean.
