I want to save a few bucks transitioning from SD to HD (w/DVR) with my dish network subscription.

Their CSR told me the I have to have a technician install the dish ($50.00). Then there is the monthly DVR fees and probably the lease fees for the receiver itself.

So, my questions are: Since I already have service, what dish and lnb do I need, if any? Right now I have a DP pro dual lnb with a standard dish. Do the HD channels reside on a different satellite other than 110* / 119*? Can I buy a receiver from a retailer to avoid lease fees? Can I save on monthly DVR fees by using my own hard drive or is that type of set up not worth the hassle?

I almost resigned to having a tech install it, but I also realize that monthly fees can add up in a hurry.
