Newbie MCE2005 Question - Adding DVD Cover Art HELP!

533 Views 8 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  adaseng
Made the plunge to MCE 2005 today. Formatted and wiped out Meedio.

Its installed and set up, but Im having a few problems.

I imported all my videos using the video wizard. When I say videos I actually mean DVD rips.

I have 4 drives - 250GB each.

Each drive has a folder called Movies and under that folder is a folder named after the movie thats inside it. Inside each movie folder is a .jpg of the dvd cover art (down loaded using an online tool) and a video_ts folder with the dvd contents.

The import goes fine and when I click a movie and click play it works, the problem is that it wont import the .jpg so I get no cover art. Also it doesnt show any of the movie info I used to see in meedio.

Can anyone help me out with a step by step here? Im so lost.

You should use the 'My Movies' plugin for MCE. It will maintain your DVD collection, cross reference all movies, actors, etc.

It will also allow you to use external DVD software, such as Zoom Player or Win DVD for movie playback.

My Movies for MCE
My Movies absolutly rocks! The only PITA is inputing all your movies, but it is well worth it.

My Movies for MCE
I was unaware of this functionality. Can you point me to directions for setting this up?

Make sure the file is called 'Folder.jpg' - it works for me.
Does My Movies play from VIDEO_TS folders, or do you have to play .iso files from daemon tools?
My Movies will play the video_ts folder. I use ISO images so personally have never used the video_ts functionality.

Reading other forums it appears people are confused if the parent folder of the video_ts is selected or the video_ts folder itself. Personally I would try the parent folder first because My Movies will recognize the video_ts subfolder and know how to respond.

Chuck... As to configuring the software I would just download from the link above and install. It should put the My Movies link on the main screen of MCE and also place it in the Other Programs folder. Once installed run the 'Edit Collection' program in Programs/My Movies/Edit Collection to build the media library. The Edit Collection program should be self-explanatory.

One note if you would like to use other DVD software than the builtin MS plaer. You will need to disable the MS player through Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Set Program Access Defaults/Custom.

One thing I don't like about the latest 1.1 release is the online/offline thumbnails placed on top of the cover art. I have a batch file that will replace all the images back to the original. If someone wants it, I can post it here.

I'm also considering developing my own My Movies type add-in for MCE 2005. I have around 200 dvd ISO's and find I would like more functionality such as subfolders, user profiles and several others. If anyone would be interested in this type of functionality I might get started on it sooner rather than later.

Does this mean you can actually use the player or just the codecs? Could I have it use Theater Tek as the player?
Hi TKO,

tried to install the link above but it says to install (NET Framework 1.1) first.

went into ms net framework site it tells me to go to live update, went to live update it says no new updates needed. what do I do?
