Newbie needs help on OTA STB

I want to try HDTV with my crt projector setup and considering OTA receiver from fleabay. I don't want satelite or cable at this point, just OTA. What kind of STB do you recommend? Is it alright to get a used D* or cable STB? Thanks.

Your cheapest solution would indeed be to buy a used OTA HD STB on EBAY, many of the reliable Samsung models like the SIR-T150 and SIR-T151 are available for $100 or less. The '150 has both VGA and component outputs, while the '151 has component output only.
Joxer. I need a vga to connect my crt projector so 151 is not good. Is 150 good enough to pull all the stations? Any other brand I should consider? And I saw a lot of STB's are for satelite D* subscription. I won't have subscription, do I need access card to operate STB just for OTA? Thanks.

I just saw a thread about the Samsung broadcast flag upgrade. If I buy Samsung STB previously used for D*, can I upgrade broadcast flag upgrade without subscription? Is broadcast flag upgrade just for Samsung STB's? Thanks.

Chris
Why would you want to upgrade anything to accept the BF if you can get it without?

I have the Samsung SIR-T150, I recommend it, its a bargain on EBAY. It has had no problems with stations that have added the broadcast flag too! Very few current models have a VGA port, so the '150 is great for that purpose.
Joxer. Thanks.
