Hi guys, I have been lurking aoround here for a few weeks and have been impressed with the amount of quality information and very technical information as well. I need to keep this simple for me. I need some help making a decision about the right STB to purchase. Currently I have Comcast Cable programming ( non-digital ). I have recently purchased a Sony 34XBR800 and I am looking for a HDTV tuner that will tune both HDTV signals and also my regular cable channels. I have looked into upgrading to the digital cable and would like a tuner with that functionality if I were to need it in the future. I have no plans to buy a dish or anything and I have been through rounds with the local CC and BB, in order to buy receiver they say you have to buy Direct TV programming...blah blah blah...Please recommend good choices for STBs that may fit my bill and not break my wallet all at once.

Current STB's are listed in the HDTV STB Synopsis. For the various pros & cons, see the topics stuck at the top, or do a search for the specific model number.


All of the current STB's will tune standard cable channels. Unfortunately, none of them at this time will tune digital or HDTV from cable.
