Why do projectors have HDMI inputs if they don't have speakers?


I thought the advantage of HDMI was eliminating the need to have seperate video and audio cables?


I am debating wether or not to purchase an upconverting HDMI reciever...

HDMI is a digital signal. Projectors could just have a DVI port, but that would necessitate and adapter for people with HDMI-switching receivers. Since HDMI is the new standard there's not reason for them not to have it.
