newbie question regarding dvi

404 Views 5 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  marck
Hi.

A quick question...

If I have 2 components that havea dvi output (dvd player and cable box) do I need 2 inputs on my plasma?

I'm thinking of the panny 50" -still not sure on the industrial or consumer

I know that I can add the dvi card to the panny industrial and the consumer i can only have 1 right?

Would I then need a 1x4 dvi switcher (not sure of exact name)?

Or can I just go out my cable box a different way and not use the DVI?

Thanks in advance.

You could get a DVI switcher if you want to go pure digital, which is theoretically the best quality. Many people claim there's no difference between DVI and Component for DVD players though.

I don't mean to insult, but are you sure your DVD player has DVI out? Last I heard there were only 2 on the market right now with this. A Samsumn and another one.

Anyway, component would probably be fine.
Actually, there are a number of DVD player w/DVI: Denon 5900, Momitsu V880, Zenith DVB318, Samsung 941, 931 and Bravo. And more in the coming months.

And yes, component for DVD is probably fine for most people.
cool...thx for the help.

I was thinking about the Momitsu V880, but now that I've read the new one should be out in about a month...i think i'll wait it out.

THe network feature and the ability to stream is worth the wait.
animalchin, you can also include HDMI equipped players to your list. HDMI is backward compatible with DVI and provides the same signal quality. Among the current HDMI players that I know of is Pioneer Elite DV59Ai, and some more are coming out soon like Samsung 941, Panasonic S97 just to name a few.

Add the Marantz 8400 to the list. I have had one for several months.
