Newbie Question

I have what I assume is a really dumb question.

My receiver (a JVC rx-6020v) has one subwoofer output (looks like an rca jack). I've just purchased a new set of speakers and subwoofer. I previously did not have a sub hooked up. This new subwoofer has two inputs "low level inputs" marked Left and Right. How exactly do I hook this up?

edit: spelling

Connect it to Left "low level input". Check the manual for sub, Left or Right both should be fine I think.

Left or right would be ok, most manuals say right just go cut down on the confusion. You could also get a Y adaptor for a few bucks to connect them both. That would give you a few more db output but not a big deal or anything probably even noticeable.
Ok, time for a second stupid question. I only get output from my subwoofer when using my optical cable. I have my HD-DVD player hooked up through the RCA 5.1 channel analog cables and when I do this I am not getting any sound from my subwoofer.

Any thoughts?
If you are using the analog outs from the HD-DVD player, you need to setup the speaker config in the player, just like you did with your receiver.

You've got to rely on the bass management of the player not the receiver via analog connection. You should have an audio setup menu for the Tosh that will allow you to set your speakers to small, sub on, set the crossover (if that's an option), adjust the channel trim, etc. I know on my player (Oppo 971) I have to boost the sub about 8dbs to get similar playback to DD/DTS. Once you get it dialed, it should sound just as good as other sub content.
