I'm new to the forum and to HD / DLP type televisions so please pardon my ignorance. I am looking at buying a Samsung 5078w for my family room. In your opinion (s), is there any point in waiting for the 5088's to come out. They will be a bunch more money so would it be worth the difference? Also, what would be the reasons for prefering DLP technology to Plasma?

I'd like to read some of your reactions to the Sam 87 series. What's good / bad about them, are there other models that would be better, that sort of thing. Also, are there things I should know about for setting the television up?

We will just be using the TV for general watching and both VHS and DVD movies.

Thanks for any input you would care to share with me.

I personally prefer DLP to plasma, and have been very happy with my Sammy DLP that I bought almost 3 years ago. Plasma is more expensive and more prone to screen door effects (in which you see the spaces between the individual pixels). Other prefer plasma - it just comes down to personal tastes and preferences. Note that VHS will not look great on any HDTV, but DVDs will look incredible, assuming you have a decent DVD player. Sorry, but I do not know the difference between the HLS5087W and HLS5088W 1080p models, but you can check out their specs and features at samsung.com.
