Newbie quick question

I jsut got a new TV that actually has more than old "RCA" plugs! Should I hook up the S-video, or component video to the new set? I'm not sure what's better!

Component is the best. Then S-Video.

For DVD use component. For HD use component.
Do be aware that you cannot transfer a high definition video signal over composite (yellow) or S-video. For this you must use component (red-green-blue) or DVI or HDMI.

You cannot transfer surround audio over red-white RCA. For this you must use optical digital audio or coaxial digital audio (orange).
While both of the posted replies are essentially accurate.

It should be pointed out that not all component connections are hi-def. Some are standard and some are wideband. It kind of depends on what's behind the connector. Only wideband component will process hi-def signals. That's one of the things one looks for when shopping for DVD players or TV's.
