This is an 8x Blu Ray reader, $15 off and free shipping. $85 total. Do you think that this is worth the extra $25 over a $60 LITE ON 4X drive? Any difference in speed/noise?

I've have a 6X drive and it took me about 35 minutes tonight to create an MKV of "The Box" it would be interesting to see if that would be faster with a 8X.

My Samsung optical drives have always been the quietest. Better burn quality, too. Given the option, I'd get the Samsung instead of the Lite-On.

I'd pony up an extra $25 to get an 8x drive over a 4x drive.


I have no idea about the quality of one specific drive vs another. But my personal opinion is that they are all probably about the same. I've never put much stock into brand loyalty for stuff like drives.

I really feel like BR drives are overlooked, there are really no real reviews of them aside from cdrlabs.com, which only has a few reviews. I know many have BR players for movies but I use my HTPC as an all-in-one device and play Blu Ray movies on it and would like to know some real data about the quietest/fastest drives out there.
