"Companies such as Samsung has reduced the plasma energy consumption by 40 per cent when compared to the 2007 models. Further other factors such as the thickness of the Plasma TV is becoming thinner and thinner and we can soon expect even more thinner models in the market. Several brand models with 25mm thickness will be out in the market by next year. Also frame-less panel televisions are expected to be released that will have no 50mm border around the picture. Principle tasks of several companies are upgradation of technology such as increasing the number of pixels, resolution and other factors to keep up the plasma industry."

Rather have a tv get to me in one piece and be thicker personally... who cares how thick it is once it's on the stand or wall. Much more important is a good bezel IMHO.

+1, once you're under 2" does it really matter?
No surprise they will get thinner each year. I think Samsung's C8000 are already just over an inch thick as it is.

The more interesting part is the frameless TV. That will allow for a larger display area in a given space. That's good news for folks who are constrained by the dimmesions of an entertainment center for example.
Pretty soon they'll be too thin to mount on a stand or the screws will come out through the screen. I wonder if this will aggravate buzz problems too?
Corning Gorilla Glass. It allows manufacturers to reduce the weight, and thickness of the front sheet of glass, while improving the strength, scratch and shatter resistance properties. It was first reported at the beginning of August, that it will be used in some 2011 HDTV models.

HDguru posted some more details, just a few days ago. I have not heard any mention of it being used in 2011 Plasma models, but I would not be surprised if it were used in some of the most expensive top of the line models.

Excerpt:

"Gorilla Glass accomplishes incredibly high strength with a thickness of just one millimeter. By comparison current tempered glass cover glass is far thicker (2.5mm-3mm), adding extra weight and associated shipping costs to the LCD TV. For instance a 55″ LCD TV using Gorilla Glass is 8.5 lbs. lighter than one that uses thermally tempered glass. Plus GG is inherently more damage resistant than other cover materials, though it is not unbreakable. Set makers using GG have the options of adding an anti-reflective (AR) glass coating, applying an AR or anti-glare film to the glass or a new Corning developed anti-glare etching process directly to the Gorilla Glass."

I'm just glad they're still trying to remain innovative with plasmas.
Seems like baseless speculation rather than real insider knowledge.
Does how thin a unit is effect buzz? Is it possible for a thin plasma to not buzz?
cool GG sounds good. I want them lighter personally so I can wall mount them by myself. I was barely able to do that with my 55 LX9500..and now I'm thinking of going 63-65.. dont think I can do it.
