I posted this on another board, thought I would pass on my findings.

I had an uncontrollable urge yesterday, wife and I went of that BAD PLACE where they have all that great gear and picked up the ProAc Response 2.5s that I have been eyeing for the past 2 months.

Placed them in toe in and pure sonic delight happened.

Don't get me wrong, the NHTs are a great speaker, but the ProAc Response 2.5 is in a different class. Tight and accurate and really fast compared to the NHT. With my NHTs the bass was all over the place and I never knew it, could be placement maybe not(I will never find out).

The ProAc Response 2.5 have an incredible finish, I picked up the Burr Oak finish, these are pieces of furniture which are beautifully finsihed, actually stunning. The Burr oak finish is an upgrade to the other woods.

Bass Performance(seems to be an issue with a few ProAcs), well, not a problem, with the assistance of my HSU SUB, I get the right sound, excellent bass response, punchy and really tight. Even without my sub, the ProAc Response 2.5s do sound great, however HT applications would require a sub .

My only concern is the AC-1 is a match for the ProAc Response 2.5 ?

I think (?) my ATI 1505 is a tad underpowered or the ProAc Response 2.5s require a very high current amp to drive them..we shall see..

Thanks for reading my blurb, I though I would share this...

Thanks.....Matt

Glad you like the Proac's, Matt. I've had a pair of Response 1sc's for about a year in a two channel stereo setup, and I really like 'em. I've gotten the HT bug, and am now running the 1sc's as my fronts, along with two 12" subs of my own design. I've also got another 12" sub running the LFE channel. I'm using a Classe' Model 15 amp, which I think is around 150 wpc. Sounds fantastic. Now, the problem is that my (homemade) center channel speaker has a slightly different timbre than the Proac's. So I've got to decide if I want to pick up a Proac Response Center Channel speaker, live with differences, or try to clone one of the Response 1sc's.

I hear you, the Proac Response CC is rated to a max of 100w, I am a tad worried of this as a center usually is the hardest worker in an HT environment. My AC1 may not be matched properly either...decisions, decisions..

Do you like your SC's I have a line on a used pair and wondered if they would be a match as rears for the response 2.5 ?

What is the price difference on these 2 speakers ? It seems that this is a case of "it better sound better considering the price". Hey I'm glad you are enjoying the speakers but really, shouldn't they sound much better ?

Matt:

Sorry for the long delayed response. I really like the 1sc's ,and am sure they would make excellent rears. They are voiced very similarly to the mains you are using.

Hi Tom,

Yup ...my dealer has a demo pair, and agrees that they would be a fantastic match, for the difference in Money, it is worth while,

I did keep my NHT AC1 center for the time being. ProAc is supposidly working on a new bigger center.
