As described in the title I can't get 5.1 over HDMI through my TV. Setup is Acer Aspire Revo AR1600-U910H (HDMI)> T.V.Samsung 50-inch PN50B530 (optical) > receiver. In case you're wondering the receiver is older and does not have a HDMI input. According to the to the T.V. manual is should be able to pass 5.1 over the optical but the option is not available in windows. I'm running windows 7 and the NVIDIA HDMI out only has 2 channel available. I'm assuming this is because the T.V. only had two speakers and HDMI is two way. My question is how can I tweak/trick the NVIDEA card into sending 5.1.

Thanks for any help you can give. Movies in 2.0 a bummer.

Some tv's can only pass 5.1 over optical when you are using the tv tuner. As in OTA, QAM, etc. You may want to confirm if this is the case with yours.

Upon further review you are correct. Thanks for the help.

When the receiver (home theater) is set to On, you can hear sound output from the TV's Optical jack. When the TV is displaying a

DTV(air) signal, the TV will send out 5.1 channel sound to the Home theater receiver. When the source is a digital component such

as a DVD and is connected to the TV via HDMI, only 2 channel sound will be heard from the Home Theater receiver.

If you want to hear 5.1 channel audio, connect the DIGITAL AUDIO OUT (OPTICAL) jack on the DVD / Blu-Ray player or Cable/

Satellite Box directly to an Amplifier or Home Theater, not the TV.
