Hey guys. As stated above, my PC is not supplying 5.1 Surround Sound in games. In the Windows control panel, it is outputting at 5.1 with test tones. As soon as I launch a game, nothing changes. It still reads as a stereo output on my receiver. I am using the MSI Z97I motherboard and a Pioneer VSX-D411. Please help me. Thanks!

I haven't figured it out yet myself...2 weeks now. I had full 5.1 test tones in Windows 7, 8, and 8.1...but not in 10. I also had separate volume controls for all channels.

I can plug my W8.1 drive back in and have all of the functionality. Swap back to the W10 drive and no. Same driver. Same exact settings. Newer driver. Default driver. No joy.

As an aside, I'm using the SPDIF (Optical) out from my motherboard to the 5.1 receiver. But again, there have been zero changes in the last 5+ years other than the Operating system.

So yeah...something is not exactly the same as in previous versions.

Well that sucks...Thanks for the quick replies though man! Really helped me out! I guess I'll just head back to Windows 8.1 for now until the drivers are fixed for 10...

I've found multiple threads this morning after some searching where many people are complaining about 5.1 surround being broken in Windows 10. Microsoft is rumored to be working on a fix.

Looks like it's been broken since the technical preview.

This post specifically from an MS person on 8/19 says they are testing a fix now.

Second thing, and being completely straightforward, I don't believe we can get this fix to the Windows Insiders before September 1. In trying to balance quality and timeliness I'm favoring quality in this case for all the reasons that Bill so eloquently laid out. I wish I could do both. :)

Finally, this is about the AC3 issue, which manifests as a surround sound failure on optical connections. Other issues like 5.1 problems on analog are separate (most likely) and we need to keep discussing those here so we can get them fixed too.

So, I guess it's just a waiting game at this point. I'm ok with that though, as it's not just me having the problem and it's being worked on.
