I am not getting sound through my AV receiver with HDMI. Of course tech support with Sony couldn't help me after an hour of chatting so I need some real experts to help me with my problem.

I am trying to get True HD sound from my BD Player.

Here is my set-up:

I have a Sony AV Receiver (STR-DG820) . It is capable of 7.1 DTS-HD, Dolby True HD, Dolby Digital, etc.

Sony BDP-S350 BD Player.

It is connected by:

HDMI out from BD player to AV Receiver (BD in)

HDMI out from AV Receiver (HDMI out) to TV (DVI)

I set the receiver HDMI sound settings to AMP.

I set the BD player sound to HDMI (auto).

I am only getting video & no sound. I can get sound if I use the optical or coaxial cables.

Here are the settings in my AMP menu:

HDMI-> CTRL-> HDMI

Audio out -> AMP

I still have video only...no sound.

I appreciate your help!

What are your settings in your Blu-Ray player? Your receiver may not be able to unpackage and decode bitstream of the hirez codecs, but instead requires PCM be sent to it for processing. In just glancing at its description on the SONY website, I do not think it can decode those codecs.

These are the only codecs that are listed in its description as it being able to decode from bitstream. It should be able to properly process the hirez codecs if you send it from the player as PCM.

I'm not sure which setting will do it, but, as I have clearly pointed out, you need to send PCM to the receiver for those hirez codecs. It will not decode them from bitstream.

Read your player's manual. I'm not going to do that for you, too.

Change the "BD Audio Setting" to "Direct" and see what happens with the HD codecs.
