No more lifetime transfers ?

Just got off the phone with customer service. I asked about transferring service from a 3000 to 5504. Wanted to re-confirm before buying a new unit.

They denied my request  They said that their systems no longer has the ability to do this anymore. Their policy changed to "no more transfers" about 2 weeks ago.

Damn.....looks like TIVO here I come.

As far as I knew they had agreed to transfer if the first unit failed. Are they reneging on that, too? Some people bought second units in reliance on that offer.

Was it that they removed that condition, then either restored it, or refuse in any case?
A week ago last Friday, I got the same answer. A "supervisor" took care of me though.

You do realize they won't transfer your service either don't you? :D
Wow! Gary does have a sense of humor after all...

(all this time I thought he was just a Dalek clue generator...)

:p
I called DNNA this morning and was told I *could* transfer service from my 3060 to a new model -- so I ordered a new 5504.

Now I'm beginning to think I should've got more than just the service rep's name in case I have to escalate the issue when I try to do the switch.

I have one of each, but they said it didn't matter. No transfers of any kind possible in their systems anymore.

What was the reps name that you spoke to?
What number did you call? You don't want to call tech support number.
I spoke with Anthony at the service activation number, who told me that transferring the service would be no problem.

He might have been telling me what I wanted to hear to get me off the phone, but hopefully if I have any problems down the road I'll be able to use this as leverage to move things in my favor.

Anthony was one of the guys I worked with too. So maybe if people call and ask for Anthony, they will have better luck. OR maybe he'll get sick of people calling and asking for him and he'll end up saying "tought luck" to everyone.. who knows
Any luck for anyone recently trying to transfer from a Showstopper unit?
Transfer from a showstopper? I thought the showstopper's didn't have an extra cost for service, so what would dnna transfer?
Dang! I wasn't aware that it was possible to transfer service. I was told and thought that "lifetime" in "lifetime service" means the lifetime of the box.

I have an old 2000 series Replay that recently died. Was it possible to transfer its service to a new 5504? If it was two weeks ago, may be I should push it some.
it started a few weeks ago and supposedly ended shortly after.

do a search for "lifetime service transfer"
When did you speak to "Anthony"? I got the promise in writing a few weeks ago and a few months ago. I posted it.
Anubus12: I suggest yo send them an e-mail inquiry so you get a written response.
A few weeks ago, I called and asked about transferring service from a 3000 to a 5000 series and was told that it could be done if the 3000 series was no longer working. If the 3000 series is still working than they won't allow you to transfer the service.
And they probably check for the last time it connected to the mother ship to determine whether it's "still working."
