Hi guys,

I have Yamaha rx-v496 with no pre outs.

What I am trying to do is power a pair of in ceiling speakers

located in other room of my house. When I use the B

speaker output the volume is to low because that room

has a volume control installed.

So what I tried to do was use the TAPE OUT to another amp

and then to the ceiling speakers. That works until I switch

the Yamaha to DVD/LD, no output to the tape out port = no

sound to the ceiling spearkers.

So now I am thinking of using the B speaker output to the

second amp. Will that work with a line converter?

What do I need? I am handy with electronics so are there

any schematics of one I could make myself?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, you could try using speaker level outs with a speaker to line level converter, which I have seen for sale. Of course you will be locked into a line level dictated by the current volume and the impedance of the converter. If your amp has a level or gain control, you will be able to have some adjustability.

Than you Micheal,

Any idea of what to look for?

A new 2 zone AV reciever would be the ideal solution

but funds are a little tight right now.

Connect your DVD/LD with stereo analog cables in addition to however it's connected now and the Tape Outs should work.

That should have worked but it did not?

I even unhooked the digital coax to see if it would

pass the analog signal to the tape out but no go.

I did build the curcuit I posted and that works! The

volume is still a little to low.

I have another similar circuit the uses a 10 k ohm

pot in place of the resistors. I only have some 100

k ohm pots in the parts bin so I will have to wait

and purchase some.
