My unit has not updated the program guide since it was updated to 3.0. The probable reason is that I play a continuous loop of a program throughout the night to mask any outside noise that might occur while I am sleeping. I suppose I could force a manual connect during the day. Are there any other solutions to this problem besides not letting the unit play all night?

Well you don't need that while you are actually asleep, you need it when you are trying to fall asleep. Do you have a remote that you can program? You could have it send the Stop command a couple hours after you go to bed or something. But how did this work before 3.0? Nothing changed in this regard that I know of.

Yes, get a fan.

Sounds silly, but a fan's constant noise will mask the small amount of noise coming out of the replay unit. The constant noise from the fan should not disturb your sleep because it is constant. I have a air purifier in the room where I sleep that is much louder than a fan and it doesn't prevent me from sleeping at all. Normally, constant noise does not wake people up.

(pretty off topic here, but...)

yes, i also say get a fan. the issue with me was not falling asleep, but being woken up. there was a time when external noises (read: "snoring") would wake me up in the middle of the night. the fan provided the perfect "white noise" to mask other noises. also perfect for sleeping during the day.

the perfect fan? 20 inch "window" box-fan. cheap. adjustable to 3 "noise" levels. don't like the breeze? throw a sheet or towel over it.

but be very careful. i got "hooked" on the fan and ended up having to use it every night for more than 5 years http://www.avsforum.com/ubb/frown.gif , even after the "noise" went away. seriously. i've now only been "clean" for a couple of years.

I find that the perfect noise is to let the TV run at low volume.

Seriously. Some nights, I can't get to sleep without turning the TV on. Fortunately, 99 44/100% of what's on works better than melatonin or benadryl.

Trouble is that the sudden silence when the Replay does its nightly call tends to wake me up.

iirc, the replay used to inturrupt playback and/or recording to make its call. under 3.0 it will wait until a free spot opens up. if you continuously loop, i guess that spot never happens.

Hey, wow. An actual source for them "whoosh muffins"!

After spending a few years working as a therapist, I'm quite used to tripping over those stupid things all over the place. Never could figure out where they came from. Just figured they grew out of the floor, next to the obligatory back-issues of New Yorker in the waiting room.

Those white noise things are nice, but for about the same price you can get a Honeywell HEPA Air Cleaner. This will make a nice white noise plus they have "Filtration which removes 99.97% of all particles down to 0.3 microns in size, providing protection from dust mite allergens, mold spores, tobacco smoke, pollen, animal hair and dander, bacteria, viruses and other harmful airborne particles."

I have one of these and they work wonders for you nose and well as making wonderful noise.

Here is the link for info on the product:

Sorry to drift so far off topic, but I can't tell you how much this little sucker has changed my life. My wife suffered from dust related problems for years until I picked up one of these, then like overnight she was cured. If you have any problems related to dust or mold spores it would be worth your while to read up on these air cleaners and see if one could help you.

Just as a note, I didn't purchase my unit from confortliving.com, I got it at Home Depot, but I have purchased replacement filters from them without any problems.

No worries, Mike. This is the correct behavior in my opinion anyway. That is what he told it to do, after all.
