No sound with ripped blu ray

704 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  jefejt
I recently added a blu ray drive to my HTPC. It will play a blu ray, and I do get audio. However a ripped blu ray will play video, but no audio. I use MakeMKV to rip and I tried playing BR in both MediaBrowser and XBMC. What did I do wrong?

What software player are you using for the disc?

What codecs do you have installed?

Are you using an AVR or TV for audio?

I use powerDVD to play the disk unless its ripped I watch through XBMC or mediabrowser. I have no idea what codecs i have. My setup is the hdmi out from my computer connects to tv tv and my tv is connected to my audio receiver via optical. Its a Samsung HT-TQ85 a decent home theatre in a box.
Nobody has an idea? I set my system up using the paid Assassin blogs if that helps. Is it possible I missed a step?
At some point you would have had to install audio codecs. It is covered in tab 2 I think unless you have an alternate solution with MPC-HC.

Are you using WMC for playback?

How many rips have you tried

Do you have the correct device enabled in Control Panel > Sound?

Can you connect the HTPC to the AVR and then the HDTV? The TV may be having problems passing the audio.

If you used my guides you should have installed LAV or Shark007. If you haven't done this install one of them.
I only have one BR disc to try. It's The Grey. I double checked and I do believe I installed the LAV filters correctly. My AVR I don't believe will bitstream HD, only DTS or Dolby Digital. I have the audio stream set for DTS, but when the output is HDMI I get no sound. If I switch it to analog I get sound. Unfortunately I cannot connect my computer directly to the AVR then the TV. It does have an HDMI in and out, but doesn't seem to work properly.
