No Sportscenter HD highlights of LCS? What gives?!

So since D* didn't have Fox-HD (do we need to call it Fix-HD till they get it working?) on as hoped last night, I had to watch the game in glorious SD. As the game ended, I thought, well at least I can see the highlights on Sportscenter in HD. Turn over to channel 73, and what do I see? Glorious SD highlights. What gives, ESPN?

Sportscenter did have highlights in HD from LCS this morning 7am - 9am et time.
Good question. I did not look for HD highlights of the game since I already saw it but would love to hear the explanation of this one as well.

The highlights on SportsCenter were in HD. The 11PM SportsCenter did not show the full highlight reel from the game, they just showed parts of the game while they were doing discussions witht eh Baseball Tonight crew. These clips weren't in HD. I dont' think they had enough time fromt he end of the game to put together their highlight reel for the 11PM SportsCenter. I watched the very next SportsCenter at 1AM, and it had full highlights in HD.

ahhh, that must have been why. But why is it so much harder to pull HD clips for their "discussions" vs only SD clips? That I don't get, they have no problem using SD shots right away, but for some reason they make it seem like HD takes extra time.

Venturing a guess that you're a Paul O'Neill fan?

I'm guessing that since everything with HDTV is new, that it must also be more involved and complicated. So delays like this can be expect for a while.
The reason for this, facilities. For short turn arounds it is easier to cut this on digibeta which is an SD format. There are more SD edit rooms then HD in operation currently. Right now ESPN's only HD facilites are the Quantel Qedits. Which are limited in the time it takes to publish and cut the highlights. For the later shows they have time to cut the hd highlights.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

I'm a HUGE Red Sox fan, die hard. I've heard the Paul O'Neil breakdown from my username, people think it means Paul O'Neil Right Field. Not true, it goes way back to a nick name from when I was young. But yeah, I'm a HUGE Sox fan, and going through some tough times right now. I had to turn SportsCenter off 2 nights in a row as soon as the highlights started, I don't care if they're HD or not, I just can't watch them again.

GO SOX!!!
Yeah Ive been wondering why they will show highlights of a game in HD, then right after it they have someone analyze it, and everything is in SD. So will they have the equipment in the near future to keep everything HD?

Another question semi-related. For the LDS games which were in widescreen on FOX, as well as the occasional NFL game that has been in widescreen, ESPN has just went 4:3 SD for these. Is this for the same reason (limited HD editing booths)?
Not always - ESPN has to obtain the rights separately for HD feeds. Sometimes, they just aren't able to get them - or aren't willing to pay what a another network wants for them (espcially if the event was widescreen SD). As more viewers begin watching the HD version of ESPN, it will become a greater priority to obtain the rights to all HD events. Right now, some events just don't warrant the cost for the number of viewers.
Its funny, even struggling VOOM shows the highlights in HD.

Shame on ESPN.
